It’s here! WordPress for iPhone just hit the Apple iTunes App Store. This is exactly the application I was waiting for. It’s a lot more full-featured than I expected it to be. You can do practically every essential posting operation right from your iPhone… and that’s exactly what I’m doing right now.

As all users of WordPress likely discovered today (or will soon) the version 2.6 is out and ready for instal. As usual, it’s a pretty easy process. You have to be careful not to overwrite your wp_content folder and you have to make some minor changes to the wp_config file, but beyond that it’s simple. HOWEVER, one rather critical element of the upgrade wasn’t mentioned in the documentation: you must clear your WordPress cookies before trying to log in again or you’ll get stuck in a login loop that never takes you to the admin area of your blog. Kinda critical. Luckily lots of people are already blogging about this issue, so finding the fix is a snap. Maybe you’re even seeing it here for the first time.
Since I’m a Mac user on Safari it was easy enough to view my cookies (preferences -> security -> show cookies) and use Spotlight the built-in Spotlight search to delete only cookies tagged with the word WordPress. Dumping all my cookies would have been a major bitch, but luckily Safari allows for easy, targeted cookie deletion.
So, there you have it. Good luck updating! The new version has some very nice new features.

The thing about the iPhone is that it’s been more or less crippled for the last year. Obviously the iPhone (and iPod Touch) is more than a simple communications device. It’s a full fledged computing platform. But until third party applications were available for it, the device failed to live up to its potential. Now, with the release of the 2.0 firmware and the opening of the Apple Applications Store, it’s finally a complete product. I’ve already downloaded a half dozen new applications for it. My iPhone is now the PDA/phone/media player I’ve wanted it to be from day one.

One of my recent clients, Lynguent, recently debuted the booth graphics I produced for them at the Design Automation Conference (DAC) in San Diego CA. An associate of mine who attended the show sent me these images of the booth in action. Evidently her camera wasn’t working right, so the quality is dicy.
